Amphitheater Fundraising Goal Reached!
During the month of May WES Community received additional funds from generous supporters. The Community Foundation of the North State has granted WES Community with $16,000 from the McConnell Fund. The Loggers Association of Northern California contributed $10,000 to WES Community and part of this gift was added to the amphitheater fund. Together, these gifts have capped off fundraising for the Amphitheater Project! Construction can begin and students will be thrilled to return to this restored space.
Summer Programs at WES!
Project SHARE returns this summer to WES, providing academic and recreation enrichment for families using the SHARE after school program. This summer day camp will operate for five weeks starting June 24th. Youth will have an opportunity to make new friends and experience the outdoors through pond exploration, hikes, crafts, and field games. Approximately 571 PreK through 8th grade students will attend from 9 Redding area schools. Youth leadership opportunities are available for high school students, grades 9-12.

WES Community Honored with Prestigious Award
WES Community is thrilled to announce it has been selected as a 2024 California Nonprofit of the Year by Assemblywoman Megan Dahle, District 1. Now in its ninth year, the Californian Nonprofit of the Year initiative provides the opportunity for each California state legislator to recognize a nonprofit organization for outstanding work in their district.
WES Community is one of 117 nonprofits honored by their state senators and assembly. WES Community Board Members, Kathy Hill, Francesca Huntsman, Melinda Kashuba and Ellen Petrick met with Katie Muang representing Megan Dahle’s office on June 5th. Later that day they attended a program recognizing their work along with other nonprofits. The day concluded with a celebratory luncheon at the Capitol. We are honored to have been recognized, as we continue to work for the students of Northern California.
Volunteers Continue To Give
Volunteers gathered at WES on Saturday, May 18th to continue campus sprucing up. Twenty-one concrete picnic tables donated by Outdoor Creations of Anderson were painted. These tables will be the alternative teaching space during amphitheater rehabilitation.
Sixteen volunteers from the community, the Shasta County Office of Education, Whiskeytown National Recreation Area, and WES Community devoted their Saturday to making Whiskeytown Environmental School a welcoming place for students. Project assistance and paint was provided by our wonderful partners at the National Park Service, Tyler Compton, Interpretive Ranger and Tyler Fuller, Volunteer Ambassador, for Whiskeytown NRA.
